Řecký horský čaj patří do čeledi Hluchavkovitých a rodu Sideritis, do kterého patří více než 150 druhů rostoucích převážně ve středomořských zemích ( Řecko, Španělsko, Itálie, Kypr, Turecko). V Řecku je znám od dob antiky, zmiňují ho například Theofrastos (372-287 BC) a Dioskourides (10.st našeho letopočtu) a nyní zde roste kolem 17 druhů. Jeho vědecký název je Sideritis spp nebo Diskouridův sideritis.
Říká se, že dostal název díky svým schopnostem léčit zranění způsobená kovovými předměty anebo také proto, že jeho květ se podobá hrotu oštěpu. Sideritis je lahodná aromatická bylina, která obsahuje flavonidy, pomáhí při prevenci a léčbě nachlazení, zánětů horních cest dýchacích, špatném trávení či střevních obtížích. Považuje se také za antioxidant, ulevuje od bolestí a zbavuje stresu.
Příprava: Na jeden šálek čaje naplňte jeden čajový filtr obsažený v balení čajovými květy a zalijte vodou o teplotě 90- 95 °C (těsně před bodem varu). Nechte louhovat 8-10 minut. Pro dochucení lze přidat med a citron. Řecký horský čaj lze servírovat v zimě jako vynikající horký nápoj a v létě za studena jako nápoj osvěžující.
Its scientific name is Sideritis spp. Mountain tea, belongs to the Lamiaceae family and the genus of Sideritis, which includes almost 150 kinds that grow mainly in the Mediteranean countries (Greece, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Turkey). It is known in Greece since the ancient years and both Theofrastos (372-287 BC) and Dioskourides (10th century AD) refer to it. Around seventeen varieties grow nowadays in Greece. Its scientific name is Sideritisspp or Dioskouride’s sideritis.
It is said that it took its name by its ability to cure injuries caused by metal objects, or as others say by the shape of its flower which looks like a spear tip. Sideritis is a tasteful and aromatic herb.
It contains flavonoids and it is thought to heal and help prevent the common cold, inflammation of the upper respiratory system, indigestion and intestinal disorders. It is also considered to be antioxidant and a natural pain and stress reliever.
Preparation: For every cup you need to fill a filter, which is included in your package with the tea flowers and add fresh water. The temperature of the water must be approximately 90-95 degrees Celcius (just before its boiling point). Your herbal drink will be ready within 8 to 10 minutes.
You may also add honey or lemon for a different flavour.
Mountain tea (Sideritis) can be served as an excellent hot winter beverage, but also as a refreshing drink during the hot summer months.
